Bend Elks News Release
The Bend Elks came out and played a non-league double header Tuesday at Vince Genna Stadium, defeating the Perth Heat 2-1 in a 7 inning contest, then took on Top Speed Baseball in the nightcap but didn't have enough in the tank, falling 8-3. Justin Erlandson for the Elks went a combined 5-7 in the 2 games for the Elks in the non-league action.
In Game 1 against the Heat, it was pitching that carried the Elks to victory as Michael McIver, a St. Martin's University graduate, pitched 4 and 1/3 scoreless innings, giving up 2 hits and struck out 2 in earning the victory. McIver was relieved by Tyler Painton, who pitched the final 2 and 2/3 innings, giving up 1 run on 1 hit in earning the save.
In Game 2, Top Speed Baseball were able to touch up the Elks for 9 runs on 9 hits in the game, as they cruised to a 9-5 victory. For the Bend Elks, Justin Erlandson, Grant Newton, and Turner Gill all had 2 hits a piece for Bend, scoring or driving in all 5 Bend Elks runs on the game, but it would not be enough for the Elks to earn a double header sweep.
The Bend Elks on Wednesday will return to West Coast League play for a 3 game series against the Medford Rogues, first pitch scheduled for 6:35 p.m.
