Kelowna Falcons Lose on Monday Night
July 9, 2013 - West Coast League (WCL)
Kelowna Falcons News Release
The Kelowna Falcons returned home on Monday after an extended nine game road trip, looking for a change in fortune. However the Cowlitz Black Bears had no intention of giving in and would defeat the Falcons 7-4.
The game started on the right foot for the Falcons scoring twice in the first two innings. In the first, Cody Andreychuk would record his first of two RBIs with a single that would score Darren Kolk.
Then in the second inning, Tyler Pentland would record his first RBI of the season with a double that scored Robby Witt.
However in the top of the third the Black Bears would solve Falcons' starter Marc Andre Habeck. They would bat around and score four times on four hits to take a two run lead.
The Bears didn't stop there scoring once in the fifth and twice in the sixth to take a five run lead.
The Falcons would claw back with single runs in the eighth and ninth on RBI hits from Andreychuk and Kolk, but it wasn't enough as the Bears held on for their fourth consecutive win over the Falcons.
Game two of the series will be played on Tuesday night at 6:35pm. Austin Rice will look to snap the Falcons three game losing skid.
This Saturday night the Falcons in partnership with Okanagan Boys and Girls Clubs are proud to announce the "Baseball Tomorrow Equipment Drive."
The Falcons will host the Kitsap Bluejackets in the series finale as the gates open at 5:30pm, first pitch at 6:35pm at Elks Stadium.
The team will be collecting your gently used baseball equipment for donation to the Okanagan Boys and Girls Clubs. All donated items will stay in the Okanagan and help kids get an opportunity to learn the game with the proper equipment.
One of the most popular summer programs run by the Okanagan Boys and Girls Club is baseball. However due to lack of equipment, not all children get an opportunity to play. The Falcons are hoping the Baseball Tomorrow Equipment Drive will make a difference.
