Bend Elks News Release
After managing just 3 hits in yesterday's 12 inning game, the Corvallis Knights brought their bats to Vince Genna stadium Saturday, getting 7 hits in the first 3 innings of the game, 14 total, and would go on to win by a score of 7-0 Saturday against the Elks at Vince Genna Stadium.
The Knights started the game off with a bang, scoring two runs off of Elks starter Jason Wilson in the top of the first. It started with a 1 out double by Corey Moore, the first of three in the first inning for the Knights. That was followed by back to back doubles by Sean Myrom and Grant Fink scored Moore and Myrom respectively. The Knights added two more in the 3rd as Corey Moore got a one out walk, advanced to third on a single by Griffin Boyd, then scored on a Sac Fly from Sean Myrom. Boyd then came around to score on a 2 out single by Matt Nylen. Then the Knights would tack on another run in the 4th as a double by Alex Foulon and an RBI single by Corey Moore would give the Knights a 5-0 lead. The Knights would score again in the 5th, adding 2 runs after a leadoff single by Griffin Boyd, a walk from Sean Myrom, Grant Fink sacrificed the runners over to 2nd and 3rd, then a 2 run single from Matt Nylen would make the score 7-0.
That would be all of the scoring on the night for either team, as Johnny Melero and Brady Kirkpatrick would combine to shut the Knights down for the final 4 innings, 3 of them from Kirkpatrick, but the Knights pitching staff was just too much for the Elks Saturday night. The Elks managed just 6 hits against the Knights on Saturday, and only got 4 runners to second base on the entire night. The bright spot in the Elks lineup was Bo Walter from the college of San Mateo, who went 3-4 on the night and got on base to lead off four different innings, but couldn't even manage to get to second base on the night. For the Knights, Fink, Mylen, Moore, and Boyd all had multi-hit games for the Knights, improving their overall record to 3-4. The Elks fall to 2-3 on the night.
The rubber match of the 3 game series will be played tomorrow, 1st pitch scheduled for 5:05 p.m.
