Cowlitz Black Bears News Release
Longview-Kelso: The Cowlitz Black Bears continued their hot hitting, knocking eight hits off of the Walla Walla Sweets, but only produced 3 runs. On the other side, the Sweets marked 9 runs on ten hits against Black Bear pitchers.
Starter Jeff Gold (University of Oregon) gave up four runs in the second inning, but then settled down to toss two scoreless frames before being replaced by Ryan Yuengel (University of Missouri). Cowlitz cut the lead to 4-3 until Yuengel got into trouble of his own in the 7th. Walla Walla sent ten to the plate en route to another four-run inning to effectively put the game on ice.
At the plate, Spencer O'Neil (University of Oregon) went two-for-three with a walk, and while Mitchell Walding (St. Mary's of Stockton HS) didn't collect his first hit as a Black Bear, he did collect a trio of walks.
The rubber match between the 3-4 Black Bears and the 3-2 Sweets is tomorrow with a scheduled first pitch at 5:05 PM. It will be Elder Options Kids Club and Senior Sunday-which gives seniors a $2 discount on tickets. Also, members of the Cold Stone Creamery Kids Club will get in for free and all kids can run the bases after the game.
