The Bend Elks looked to bounce back against the Klamath Falls Gems on Friday night and did so in a big way, scoring 14 runs on 14 hits in defeating the Gems 14-4.
Darin Gillies got the start for the Bend Elks and was brilliant on the mound, pitching 6 and 1/3 innings, giving up 3 runs on 7 hits in picking up the win for the Bend Elks, walking 3 and striking out 8. He was much better than the Elks needed him to be, but an important win for the Bend Elks at home in Bend.
Offensively for the Bend Elks, 7 of the 9 starters recorded at least one hit for the Elks, and were led by Joey Mathews, Will Sparks, and Kyle Gallegos, who all had 3 hits apiece, and the Elks cruised to the easy victory at home in Bend.
The Elks will be back in action against the Klamath Falls Gems from Klamath Falls, OR trying to get back into 2nd place in the WCL western division, chasing a playoff berth with 6 games to go. The Elks enter the final 6 games in 4th place, but only a game out of 2nd place in the west division. The first pitch from Klamath Falls set for 6:35 p.m.
