August 3, 2012 - West Coast League (WCL)
Bend Elks News Release
The Bend Elks were in a tight battle with the Klamath Falls Gems heading into the 5th inning Wednesday, then the Klamath Falls Gems scored 8 runs in the top of the 5th inning and never looked back, defeating the Bend Elks 18-3.
J.R. Bunda got the start for the Bend Elks and had a good start, giving up just 1 run on 4 hits through the first 4 innings, but in the 5th inning, 4 hits and 3 hit batsmen helped chase J.R. Bunda from the ballgame, as he took the loss for the Bend Elks.
The Elks tried to answer back in the 6th when Shawn O'Brien went 2-4 with a 2 run home run to cut the lead to 9-3, but the Gems would go on to score 2 in the 7th, 1 in the 8th, and 6 in the 9th inning in coasting to an 18-3 win. The Elks pitched 2 position players in the top of the 9th inning in a game that was out of hand after the long 5th inning.
Darian Ramage and Steven Halcomb had 2 hits apiece for the Elks, who dropped their 3rd consecutive ball game.
The Elks will return to action on Friday against the Klamath Falls Gems in their quest for the playoffs, 6:35 first pitch.
