Corvallis: Greg Mahle (UC Santa Barbara) of the Corvallis Knights pitched a no-hitter against the Black Bears Friday night as the Knights got a convincing 14-0 win to take their second consecutive game against the Black Bears. Mahle added four hits at the plate.
The Black Bears drew three walks, one each by Ian Ekery (Central Arizona), Derrick Salberg (Lower Columbia), and Konnor Armijo (Santa Ana). Taylor Williams (Mt. Hood) had the best outing of any Black Bears pitcher, throwing two shutout innings. Kevin Sprague (UC Riverside) had one scoreless inning as well.
Despite the loss, the Klamath Falls Gems fell to the Bend Elks and the Black Bears remain just a half game behind the Gems for the second playoff spot in the West Division.
The Black Bears next home game is Sunday, August 5 against the WCL Portland All-Stars and it will be Best Care- Local Care Presents Kids Club & Senior Sundays. There will be a $2 ticket discount for all seniors. Kids Club members get in for free. Kids run the bases after the game.
