Bend Elks News Release
Adam Grantham and the Bend Elks bullpen combined to give up only 1 run on 3 hits to the Wenatchee AppleSox on Monday, Cullen O'Dwyer had an RBI double to get the Elks on the board early, and the Bend Elks cruised to a 5-1 victory and a 3 game sweep at Vince Genna Stadium.
Bend (26-16) jumped on the board in the bottom of the 2nd inning as Cullen O'Dwyer's 2 out RBI double scored Derek Dixon, giving the Elks the early 1-0 lead.
Adam Grantham (3-2) would not need any more than that, as he pitched 5 scoreless innings, giving up 1 hit and striking out 4, earning his third win of the summer for the Elks.
The Elks added 2 more in the bottom of the 6th inning against Wenatchee starter Davis Engel (4-3) as Chase Fields opened up the inning with a double and pinch ran for by Landon Cray, leaving the game with an apparent injury. After Keach Ballard grounded out to advance Cray to third, Seth Spivey came through with an RBI single to score Cray, Spivey's 1st hit of the game to make it 2-0. After Tyler Servais grounded out to advance Spivey to 2nd base, Derek Dixon produced an RBI single into centerfield, Spivey scored from 2nd, and the Elks lead 3-0.
Wenatchee (23-22) finally got in the board in the top of the 7th inning as Eric Hutting walked, Joey Jansen bounced into a fielder's choice in which all men were safe on the error by Keach Ballard, and Stockton Taylor was hit by Jordan Aboites to load the bases with nobody out. In came Michael Jordan, the Elks reliever whose first pitch to Brett Stephens was a groundball to Spivey to start a 4-6-3 double play, as the Elks traded 2 outs for the run, and Joe Mello grounded out to end the inning with Bend holding a 3-1 lead.
Bend took back the run they gave up in the bottom of the 7th inning as the Elks first 3 hitters had 3 consecutive hits as Curtis Wildung doubled, Kyle Giusti singled to advance Wildung to 3rd, and the RBI single from Zach Close brought him home to give the Elks the 3 run lead. Bend would add to it in the bottom of the 8th inning as Close once again came through with a bases loaded infield single to score pinch runner Tyler Painton, giving the Elks the 5-1 lead, the final score.
