Bend Elks News Release

Turning around to play a day game after a fifteen inning marathon that took four hours and ended well into the night, The Elks came out sluggish on Sunday, falling to the Corvallis Knights by a score of 4-1.

It was a game that was dominated largely by both pitching staffs as only one run was scored through the first 7 innings as both starting pitchers had strong outings. Jace Fry got the win for the Corvallis Knights, going 6 innings, giving up four hits and striking out 8. Jason Wilson was the hard luck loser on the day, giving up one run in the second inning, giving up a leadoff single, then allowing three straight runners to reach base, two walks and a hit by pitch to make the game 1-0.

Then in the eight, Corvallis broke it open as reliever Nate King issued three consecutive singles, the third to David Andriese, allowing for two runs to score. That was followed by a Corey Davis sac fly, scoring Andriese and making the score 4-0.

The Elks (27-20) avoided the shutout by scoring one in the top of the 9th as Royce Bollinger and Toby DeMello hit back to back singles, and Donald Collins hit a sacrifice fly to score Bollinger, giving the final 4-1 tally.

The Elks and Knights will play the rubber match of the 3 game series Monday in Bend, first pitch scheduled for 6:35 p.m. on Kiwanis Club Mini Bat Night, where the first 1,000 kids will receive a mini-bat upon admission.
