Black Bears Extend Win Streak To 5

July 31, 2011 - West Coast League (WCL)
Cowlitz Black Bears News Release

Grahamm Wiest (Cal St. Fullerton) took the mound looking to reverse the Black Bears misfortune against the Kitsap BlueJackets. Cowlitz entered the game winless in three tries, and 1-5 overall against the BlueJackets.

Wiest did his part to reverse the trend, pitching through the eighth inning, giving up one run on six hits and striking out a half dozen Kitsap batters. Richi Sandoval (New Mexico Highland) made his first appearance in several games and retired the BlueJackets in order to seal the win.

Bailey Graham (LCC) led the offense from the bottom of the order, going three-for-four with a double. Kyle Garlick (University of Oregon) went two-for-five with an RBI double and a stolen base. Greg Velazquez (Cal St. Fullerton) continued to produce from the cleanup role, reaching base twice, stealing a bag, and driving in a run.

The team returns home on August 2nd for the start of four home games with a match against the WCL Portland All-Stars. Come on out for Azteca $2 Tuesday, where beer, hot dogs, GA tickets, and soda are all $2. It will also be Longview Schools Honor Roll Night. After that, the Walla Walla Sweets come to Story Field for a weekend series beginning August 5th with Las Rocas Fabulous Friday and Bark In The Park presented by Pet Works. The first 100 fans will receive a Black Bears dog bowl courtesy of the good folks at Pet Works.
