July 20, 2012 - West Coast League (WCL)
Bend Elks News Release
The Elks opened up with a 3-1 lead heading to the bottom of the 5th inning when the Corvallis Knights scored 4 runs off of the Elks, sparked by a 3 run triple from Caleb Whalen, and the Elks lost to Corvallis 5-3.
Zane Yanzick provided a spark for the Bend Elks as he was easily the Elks most successful hitter at the plate. Zane delivered a 2 run home run against Corvallis starter Max Beatty in the 2nd inning to give the Elks an early 2-0 lead. Zane went 2-4 on the night, responsible for 2 of the Elks 4 hits.
Brent Jones got the start on the mound for the Elks, but had a short outing, giving up three runs on 6 hits, walked a batter and struck a batter out before being pulled in the 5th inning. Matt Fielding came on and surrendered a bases loaded triple to Whalen, giving the Knights the 4-3 lead. That was followed by an RBI single Mark Gallegos to score Whalen, providing the final 5-3 margin.
Trevor Hildenberger pitched three scoreless innings in relief for the Elks, and Parker Guinn delivered a hit and an RBI for Bend, who begins a 3 game series Friday with Bellingham, first pitch at 7:05.
