Black Bears Lose to Wenatchee
July 20, 2012 - West Coast League (WCL)
Cowlitz Black Bears News Release
Longview: Despite a late rally, the Cowlitz Black Bears fell to the Wenatchee AppleSox Friday at David Story Field, dropping them to 17-21 in West Coast League play.
After Wenatchee took a 2-0 lead on a pair of solo home runs in the top of the second inning, the Black Bears cut lead in half on a solo home run by Matt Ozanne (Santa Clara). It would be their last threat for a while as Wenatchee's pitching was very effective, allowing only four hits and one walk through eight innings.
Trailing 6-1 in the bottom of the ninth with two outs and nobody on, Konnor Armijo (Santa Ana) started a rally with a single. An error and Tyler Madrid (Santa Ana) single loaded the bases and Drew Luther (Fullerton JC) drew a bases loaded walk to score a run and bring the tying run to the plate. A fielder's choice ended the game, however.
Brian McAfee (Cornell) and Ian Ekery (Central Arizona) combined to pitch three perfect innings and keep the game within reach.
The Black Bears next home game is Saturday, July 21st against the Wenatchee AppleSox. It will by Applebee's Saturday At The Park and the Cowlitz Black Bears first ever Random Act of Kindness Night, presented by Estetica Day Spa and Hilander Dental.
