Bend Elks News Release

The Bend Elks gave up three runs on one hit in the first inning as the battery struggled to communicate, but they responded with a big 5 run fourth inning, capped by a three run home run from Washington State infielder Stetson Olson, and the Bend Elks were able to hold off and beat the Wenatchee AppleSox 6-5.

In the top of the first, the AppleSox benefitted greatly from 2 passed balls and a wild pitch in the inning, in addition to three walks to help move their hitters around the bases, scoring three runs in the inning. They would add another run in the top of the third as two one out walks would allow for a sacrifice fly from AppleSox right fielder Ryan Barnes, making the score 4-0 AppleSox.

Then in the bottom of the fourth, the Elks sent all nine hitters to the plate, getting 5 hits and capping the action with a three run home run from first baseman Stetson Olson, his first of the summer, to help the Elks take the lead 5-4.

Wenatchee tied the game back up in the top of the fifth as back to back walks started off the inning, a sacrifice bunt put runners on second and third with one out, then an RBI single by Ryan Barnes tied the game at 5. Then in the bottom of the sixth, Michael Benjamin hit a 1-0 fastball over the left field wall for a solo home run, giving the Elks the go ahead run in what would prove to be the game winning run, helping get the 6-5 final.
