Bend Elks News Release

The Elks were the ones with the big inning Thursday night, scoring 6 runs in the bottom of the fifth en route to victory, avoiding the sweep at the hands of the Cowlitz Black Bears by winning 8-3.

Cowlitz got on the board first in the top of the second as Spencer O Neil scored on an RBI fielder's choice and Cody Webster scored on a wild pitch from Stephen Ostapeck to make the score 2-0. The Elks got one back in the bottom half on a solo home run from Tyler Christian to lead off the inning and cut the Bears lead to one. Cowlitz got the run back in the top of the third courtesy of their own solo home run, that one off the bat of Beau Didier to make the score 3-1 Cowlitz.

Then in the bottom of the 5th inning, the Elks would send 11 hitters to the plate, accumulating six hits in the inning, with Donald Collins, Jordan Brower, and Cullen Hendrickson delivering RBI singles and Bo Walter had a 2 run double in the inning, and the Elks would take their first lead in the series by a score of 7-3. The Elks would add another one in the bottom of the sixth as Justin Maffei reached on an error and would come around to score on an RBI groundout from Tyler Christian, providing the final 8-3 score. The Elks also largely benefitted from six errors committed by Cowlitz on the night, who had a night they are hoping to forget before opening a three game series against the Klamath Falls Gems.

Stephen Ostapeck, making his first start of the season, got the win for the Elks, going 7 innings, giving up just one earned run and struck out four to help lead the way for the Bend Elks. The Elks are back in action tomorrow night at Vince Genna Stadium to welcome the Wenatchee AppleSox into town for a three game series, first pitch scheduled for 6:35.
