DANVILLE, Va. - The Danville Braves returned seven of their nine opening day starters to the line-up, a day after being blanked by Elizabethton, in the hope of rekindling that opening night spark.

But it didn't work out.

The Twins won the rubber match game 7-2 Thursday night at American Legion Post 325 Field to take the first of six contests between the two clubs this season.

The D-Braves got to Twins starter Corey Kimes early-on and got on the board in their second at bats. Left fielder Edison Sanchez slapped a single to right to give the D-Braves their first hit of the game. First baseman, Aris Alcantara, wasted no time at the plate and went yard off a first-pitch fastball from Kimes to front the Braves a two-run lead.

In the third inning, the Twins got a leadoff double from catcher Bo Altobelli. Shortstop Jorge Polanco pushed him to third on a comebacker to D-Braves starter Frank Lafreniere. Limping from the line-drive, Lafreniere somehow managed to throw-out Polanco at first. Second baseman Candido Pimentel hit an RBI groundout to put the Twins on the board and cut the lead in half.

The D-Braves ran into sixth inning troubles. Twins left fielder Rory Rhodes, 8-for-14 in the series, extended his hit streak to three games when center fielder Logan Robbins lost sight of the ball and let it drop in no mans land. Rhodes advanced to second on a balk by long man Carlos Perez. With two outs and the table set, Perez threw a ball four wild pitch, which scored two Twins and made it 3-2. But the damage wasn't done. Polanco then plated an RBI single to cap the Twins' three-run sixth.

The Twins retired 13 D-Braves in a row and it was all Twins from the sixth inning on. Shortstop Niko Goodrum hit his third triple of the series and advanced home on a throwing error by shortstop Eric Garcia to give the Twins a three-run lead. Rhodes then hit a two-run moon shot to give the Twins a game-lasting 7-2 lead.

The D-Braves are away at Bristol tomorrow for the start of a three-game series with the Sox, but are back home for a June 25-27 home stand against the Kingsport Mets.

The first game of the June 25-27 home stand is Faith Night presented by Wrenn-Yeatts. Any church group that purchases tickets in advance (no discounts once gates open) will receive a 45 percent discounted ticket offer. It's a daily double of a promo that Monday as fans can also catch Dollar Dog Night courtesy of Kunzlers.

Tickets for any D-Braves game may be purchased in-person at the ALP 325 Field Box Office, by phone at (434) 797-3792, or on-line at www.dbraves.com.
