El Paso Rhinos Annual Teddy Bear Toss; Rhinos Receive Purple Heart Sports Team Designation

March 25, 2024 - North American Hockey League (NAHL)
El Paso Rhinos News Release

In their final regular series home games, the El Paso Rhinos will host their annual Teddy Bear Toss at the Rhinos Arena March 29-31, 2024, in games against the Colorado Grit.

The Rhinos will celebrate fan appreciation Friday and Saturday at 7 PM and Sunday at 4:30 PM. Friday's game will include a special giveaway for the first 50 entrants courtesy of the Brian Burds Home Selling Team. Saturday's game will feature the Teddy Bear Toss in memory of Joni Arnett. Fans are asked to bring new stuffed animals to toss on the ice after the Rhinos' first goal. The stuffed animals will then be donated to the El Paso County Sheriff's Offices to use on calls that involve children. Sunday's game will include a special appearance by the Easter Bunny.

On Saturday the El Paso Rhinos will also have the distinct honor of being designated a Purple Heart Sports Team and the first hockey team in the state of Texas to earn this prestigious designation. The Military Order of the Purple Heart (MOPH) Lone Star Chapter 393 of El Paso, TX is a congressionally chartered United States war veterans organization. It is composed of military men and women who have received the Purple Heart Medal for wounds suffered in combat or by an act of international terrorism. By proclaiming the El Paso Rhinos a Purple Heart Sports Team, the team commits to remembering acts of resilience by brave veterans. The designation fosters a sense of patriotism and unity, ensuring that the sacrifices of the 1.9 million Purple Heart recipients are never forgotten.

The weekend will also feature special dedications to billet families, players aging out of the program, and an Honorary Rhino award. The Rhinos have qualified for playoffs, and more information on that will be forthcoming. Check elpasorhinos.com or the Rhinos' social media for updates.

Tickets start at $5 and can be purchased at Ticketmaster.com or the Coliseum Box Office. With a valid Military ID Card or Veteran Identification Card, active and retired Military personnel, Veterans, and their families receive free admission to all home games. For details regarding ticketing, please call 915-533-9899.
