El Paso Rally Falls Short

The El Paso Chihuahuas put the tying run at third base in the bottom of the ninth inning Sunday night but lost to the Las Vegas Aviators 4-3 at Southwest University Park. The teams split the six-game series, ending El Paso's streak of four consecutive series wins.

Chihuahuas first baseman Taylor Kohlwey went 3-for-4 with a home run, a double and two RBIs. Kohlwey went 9-for-18 with two home runs and eight RBIs in the series and has an 11-game hitting streak. El Paso shortstop C.J. Hinojosa went 2-for-4 with a solo home run in the seventh inning, his third homer of the season and his first since May 4.

Robinson Canó played second base for El Paso for the first time after being the designated hitter in his first six Chihuahuas games. The Chihuahuas won five games in their nine-game homestand. The Chihuahuas do not play on Monday.
