El Paso Locomotive FC News Release
EL PASO, Texas - El Paso Locomotive FC (1-4-0, 3 points, West-10) begins its Copa Tejas title defense on Saturday, April 16 with a road game against San Antonio FC (4-1-0, 12 points, West-3). Kickoff from Toyota Field is set for 6:30 p.m. MT and will be broadcast live on ESPN+.
El Paso Locomotive is hosting its Official Watch Party at The Union Drafthouse located on Tierra Este Road. Fans can win Locomotive giveaways and enjoy $4 ciders and sours while cheering on the Boys in Blue with other Locomotive fans.
In 2021, El Paso Locomotive dominated against the USL Championship Texas clubs, laying claim to the Copa Tejas. Locomotive will now defend the title against San Antonio FC and Rio Grande Valley FC in a round-robin competition format with the title being awarded to the best team of the three. So far in the 2022 USL Championship season, San Antonio FC leads the Copa Tejas charge having claimed a 2-1 victory over Rio Grande Valley FC in March for three points.
After a difficult beginning to the Locomotive season, the Locos made a breakthrough with a decisive 5-0 victory over Monterey Bay F.C. on Saturday. The first win of the season has reinvigorated the Locomotive locker room as the team heads into the weekend to take on a San Antonio side that has had great success in its first five games of the season. San Antonio FC has won four out of its last five games in USL Championship regular season and has advanced to the third round of the 2022 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup. While both teams are coming off a week of rest from their last game, San Antonio FC has a tight schedule ahead of them.
Between the two teams, El Paso Locomotive leads the regular season all-time series on a 3-2-2 record. Most recently, Locomotive and San Antonio split the points off of a dramatic and exciting 3-3 draw at Southwest University Park. The Texas clubs have shared the results at Toyota Field after three matches, splitting a 1-1-1 record, leaving Saturday's match to be anyone's game.
