El Paso Locomotive FC News Release
EL PASO, Texas - El Paso Locomotive FC announced today that defender Erik McCue has signed with the club, pending League and Federation approval. The 21-year-old joins El Paso from AB Argir, who play in the Betrideildin, the top division of the Faroe Islands Premier League.
"Erik is a young and talented defender we're excited to bring into the team," Head Coach and Technical Director John Hutchinson said about the new signing. "He has a bright future and with his pedigree we think he can develop into a tenacious defender in this league."
McCue began his youth career with FC Bangkok before making the move stateside, spending 2015-2017 with D.C. United in their youth system. In 2017 he joined the Houston Dynamo academy and shined as one of the program's elite players, earning multiple honors, including the U-17 MVP.
In 2018, McCue signed a Homegrown Player contract with MLS side Houston Dynamo, being the tenth player at the time to do so. He would spend time on loan to Dynamo's affiliate club, Rio Grande Valley Toros, for the 2019-2020 season, appearing in seven matches. After a shortened 2020 season, McCue signed a season-long loan with Charleston Battery for the 2021 campaign. With Charleston, he made 15 appearances and scored one goal, and had one assist.
McCue signed with AB Argir for the 2022 season and will join Locomotive after spending the majority of his career already familiar with the USL Championship.
El Paso will be announcing more roster additions in the coming weeks as they gear up for their fifth USL Championship season.
