FC Tulsa News Release
TULSA - The first piece of the 2023 FC Tulsa offensive puzzle has fallen into place. Forward Marcus Epps is returning in black and patina to command the wider areas and account for plenty of goals next season.
Epps was originally acquired by FC Tulsa on July 27 from Phoenix Rising FC in a player-for-player swap that saw JJ Williams depart in favor of the Mississippi-born winger. Epps appeared 10 times for Tulsa and hit his stride late in the season as he settled into his new attacking system. Epps played 348 of the club's final 360 minutes of the season and buried two goals during that span.
"What stands out about Marcus from a lot of players is his 1v1 ability," said FC Tulsa head coach Blair Gavin. "He can take guys on, especially in the wide areas, and create separation for a final pass or goal for goal. Marcus is an incredible asset and we're looking forward to working with him."
Epps was selected with the 25th overall pick in the 2017 MLS SuperDraft by the Philadelphia Union and joined New York Red Bulls the following season. The winger secured three goals in 35 MLS appearances before becoming a mainstay menace in the USL Championship.
In 134 career USL Championship appearances, including playoff nods, Epps has crafted a sparkling resume consisting of 20 goals, 16 assists, and a Western Conference Finals appearance in 2021 with San Antonio FC. That 2021 campaign saw Epps set single-season career highs with six goals and five assists while leading the talented Texas troop in appearances (32), starts (30), and minutes played (2,633).
"I'm very excited to be returning to FC Tulsa for the 2023 season," said Epps. "Joining the FC Tulsa community last year was an honor and my time spent with the staff, players, and fans felt like home. I look forward to returning to ONEOK with the group and begin working on making the 2023 season a special one."
Marcus Epps joins Bradley Bourgeois as the first two players announced to FC Tulsa's 2023 roster. Player announcements will continue to be made throughout the offseason.
