
Eight Toronto Sceptres Move on to Semifinals at Olympic Winter Games

TORONTO - With Canada and Sweden winning their respective Quarterfinal games, eight Toronto Sceptres players will move on to the Semifinal round of competition for the Women's Hockey Tournament at the Olympic Winter Games Milano Cortina 2026.
Canada
Taking on Germany in their Quarterfinal match, Canada skated away with a 5-1 win. Emma Maltais fed Brianne Jenner to open the scoring, and Renata Fast and Daryl Watts assisted Sarah Fillier on the 3-0 goal on the advantage. Sceptres captain Blayre Turnbull lit the lamp 38 seconds into the third period, and Watts assisted on Marie-Philip Poulin's goal to make it 5-1 for Canada. Poulin's goal tied her with Canadian legend Hayley Wickenheiser for the record of most goals at the Olympic Winter Games in Women's Ice Hockey with 18.

Sweden
Sweden was the only Quarterfinal victor from Group B, with a strong showing against Czechia. Sara Hjalmarsson was on the ice for Hanna Olsson's power play goal, and Anna Kjellbin assisted on Hilda Svensson's empty netter that sealed the 2-0 win.

Feb. 7 vs. Italy, 6-1 win
Feb. 8 vs. France, 4-0 win
Feb. 10 vs. Japan, 4-0 win
Quarterfinal Result:
Feb. 13 vs. Czechia, 2-0 win

Feb. 16 vs. United States, 10:40 a.m.

Italy
Italy held the United States to one goal late in the first frame, and none in the last, but their second period proved to be the downfall of their incredible run at home Milan. Kristin Della Rovere contributed a shot to Italy's final count of six. Goaltender Gabriella Durante turned aside 45 of the American shots on net in the loss.
Participating in her first Olympic Winter Games, Della Rovere ended the tournament at the top of Italy's leaderboard with four points in five games played.
