DANVILLE, VA - Outscoring the opposition in the second-inning is nothing new for the Danville Braves. Scoring eight runs in the inning however, is a new feat.

The Braves exploded for a season-high eight runs on six hits and sent 12 batters to the plate, in the second-inning versus the Princeton Devil Rays, leading to an 8-4 victory Monday night at American Legion Post 325 Field at Dan Daniel Memorial Park.

Danville has now outscored opposing teams 56-16 in the second-inning this season.

In the eight-run inning, Jon-Mark Owings, Ernesto Mejia, Danny Brezeale, Larry Williams and Willie Cabrera all had base hits off of Princeton starter Chad Pendarvis (4-3). Concepcion Rodriguez, Phillip Britton, Brezeale, Williams, Cabrera all drove in a run and Ernesto Mejia, who had two hits in the inning, added a three-run double to make it 8-0 Danville.

Mejia finished the night 3 for 4 with three RBI and a run scored for Danville who recorded their 32nd game with 10 or more hits, getting 11 on the night.

One night after seeing Danville comeback from a 6-0 deficit, Princeton attempted their own rally beginning in the fourth-inning when Seth Dhaenens and Kevin Colon had RBI singles to make it 8-2.

In the fifth, Mike McCormick hit his third home run in as many days, his eighth of the season, to pull Princeton to within five at 8-3.

A big comeback wasn't in the cards though for the Devil Rays as the Braves' bullpen held the Princeton offense to one run the rest of the way sending the crowd of 2,712 fans in Danville home happy.

Kyle Cofield (1-3) picked up the victory for the Braves, giving up one run on four hits while striking out two in 2 1/3 innings.

With the victory, the first place Braves improve to 30-23 while the Devil Rays drop to 23-26.

Next up, the Braves will begin a three-game series versus the Kingsport Mets Tuesday evening at 7:00 PM at Dan Daniel Memorial Park.
