Lawton-Fort Sill Cavalry News Release
LAWTON, OKLA.-- Forty-one players attended the Oklahoma Cavalry player tryout camp in Lawton, Okla. this past weekend at Rinehart Gymnasium on Ft. Sill, with eight being invited to attend Oklahoma Cavalry's Veterans Camp the first week of November.
Head Coach Michael Ray Richardson and Assistant Coach Derrick Roland put the players through an extensive and grinding workout, comprised of drills, conditioning, set plays and scrimmages, to test the skills of each athlete.
"We had a great turnout, and I saw a lot of young talent," Coach Richardson said. "There were a lot of smart players who understood the game and also some really good shooters. A lot of these guys could play in this league."
After final evaluation Sunday, Coach Richardson invited eight players to attend the Veterans Camp, and they include Jermaine Byrd, Darold Crow, Pierre Darden, DaMarcus Ellis, Michael McCowan, Darius Simmons, Judson Stubbs and Kenny Wilson.
Assistant Coach Derrick Roland said he was also pleased with the number of players that tried out and cannot wait to see how these eight players perform at the Veterans Camp.
"It was a very successful camp," Coach Roland said. "We are looking forward to putting the eight players with the veterans and seeing how well they compete at a much higher playing level. It is going to be an exciting season."
The final 10-man roster for the 2007-08 inaugural season will be selected at the conclusion of the Veterans Camp November 9, 2007.
