Toronto FC News Release
Toronto FC midfielder Maurice Edu will join the U.S. Men's National Team, after been selected to the 21 man roster for the Americans upcoming 2010 World Cup Qualifier against Barbados.
The match will be played June 15 at the Home Depot Center in Los Angeles with a kick off of 2 p.m ET. The U.S. will play the return match against Barbados on June 22 and a decision will be made after the first game as to which players will travel to Bridgetown, Barbados.
Edu is already training with the rest of the squad in L.A. and is coming off his most recent appearance with the Americans June 8 in New York in a friendly against Argentina that finished 0-0. Edu earned his 7th cap in that match coming on as a substitute in the 2nd half.
The U.S. and Barbados have only met twice before in their history, the matches taking place in the Semifinal Round of 2002 FIFA World Cup qualifying.
Edu will miss Toronto FC's home match June 14 against Colorado, and will either be released by U.S. Soccer after the first match against Barbados and return to Toronto, or continue on with the National team.
