Edinburg Roadrunners News Release

Edinburg, Texas --- Starter Matison Smith gave up just one run on five hits in eight innings to guide the Edinburg Roadrunners to a 7-3 victory over the Colts Wednesday night at Edinburg Stadium.

Smith (4-3) struck out a game-high seven in the win. The lone run he gave up was a leadoff homer by third baseman Landon Camp in the eighth. It was Camp's team-best seventh home run of the year.

At the plate, Edinburg scored a run in four of the first five innings. Colts' starter Mark Willinsky (4-3) lasted 5 1/3 innings. He gave up four runs, three earned, on nine hits and took the loss.

The Roadrunners took a commanding 7-0 lead with a three-run seventh. Left fielder Stantrel Smith hit a two-run double that scored catcher Osiel Flores and right fielder Tim Battle. Smith then scored on an RBI single by second baseman Wilmer Pino.

San Angelo rallied for two runs in the ninth, but Edinburg reliever Robert Roth worked out of a no-out, two-on jam to finish the game.

The win improves Edinburg to 28-18, while the loss drops San Angelo below .500 to 22-23. This four-game series continues Thursday evening at 7:05 p.m. The game can be heard live on KKSA, beginning at 6:50 p.m.
