Edge Win Third Straight, Glen 'Big Baby' Davis Leads the Way with 20 Points

St. John's, NL - The St. John's Edge made the trip across the Confederation Bridge and took care of business by a score of 107-98 over the Island Storm in Charlottetown, PEI.

The entire game was built on some fast-paced back and forth action. The Island Storm came out firing, just as they did the last time these teams met at Mile One Centre. For the Edge, they struggled early on missing some easy attempts and being outrebounded by a high energy Storm team. What kept the Edge in the game was the inside presence of Glen 'Big Baby' Davis who was a starter for the first time this season. Throughout the first half, the assignment for the Island Storm was to stop the 6'9" forward. The Teams were all square after the first quarter, but the Island Storm would go on a little run mid-way through the second quarter to extend their lead to as many as 10 points. The Edge would chip away at the lead and a last-second Maurice Jones Sr. lay-up would give St. John's the one-point advantage going into the half.

In the third quarter, the Edge did what they do best, they took the lead and would not let the Island Storm reclaim it through the remaining two quarters. Junior Cadougan was a catalyst at the point guard position, allowing Maurice Jones Sr. to play off the ball and set up some open looks from the perimeter. With a crucial fourth quarter upcoming, Head Coach Doug Plumb gave Glen Davis some rest in the third relying on the hard-nosed play of Keith Wright Jr. to take over down low and continue to create problems for the Storm defence in the post. As the game moved along to the fourth quarter the Edge were ahead by just 3-points. As the game wore on, a late quarter three from Dez Lee would prove to be the dagger as the Edge would go on to defeat the Island Storm by a score of 107-98.

On the night the Edge would go 39-for-92 from the field for 42.4% shooting. Their bench combined to score 41 points compared to the Island Storm 17 points off the bench. St. John's were also able to capitalize on the Island Storm turnovers scoring 21 points on 16 Storm turnovers.

The story all night long was the inside presence of the Edge big men. Glen 'Big Baby' Davis in his first start of the year would drop a team-high 20 points, with 7 rebounds, and 3 blocks. Davis scored 17 of his 20 in the first half alone. St. John's had 6 players score in double figures, Dez Lee would record a double-double with 19 points and 10 rebounds. Maurice Jones Sr. would also record a double-double with 13 points and 13 assists. Keith Wright Jr. made his presence felt in the post as well, pulling down 10 rebounds on the night and playing some tough defence on the Storm big men.

For the Island Storm, the majority of their offence would come from two players. Sampson Carter would put up 33 points with former Edge player Russell Byrd dropping 20 in the loss.

The team now heads back to Harbour Station for another meeting with the Saint John Riptide on Sunday afternoon. This will be the final game on the six-game road trip for the St. John's Edge.
