St. John's Edge News Release
St. John's, NL - The St. John's Edge finished their first home series of the season against the Moncton Magic on Sunday afternoon, falling to the Magic by a score of 112-100 in front of a crowd of 3,725 at Mile One Centre.
The Edge were able to get off to a good start this afternoon, keeping up with the Magic scoring almost bucket for bucket in the first. Also, in the early going the defense was locking down the Moncton big-men and limiting that inside scoring that hurt them in game one of this series.
Both teams were deadlocked going into the second quarter, but then as the quarter progressed, Moncton was able to pull ahead by 12 going into the half.
The Third quarter was much of the same, as Moncton came out firing on all-cylinders, pushing their lead at one point to as much as 16.
In the fourth the Edge were able to mount a bit of a comeback, playing some solid defense after they switched from man-to-man to a zone defense, forcing Moncton to convert on their shots from the outside. The Moncton Offense adjusted accordingly knocking down their shots and maintaining a lead into the last few minutes of the game.
The Edge were led by Guillaume Boucard who put up a team-high 21 points to go along with 5 rebounds and 3 assists. Contributing off the bench once again was Todd Brown Jr. scoring 16 points and 7 rebounds. Unlike Friday nights game the Edge were able to limit the inside scoring of the Magic, but the Magic found other ways to score the basketball by improving on their mid range and three-point percentages.
Moncton were led offensively by Isaiah Tate who dropped a game-high 24 points on 7-for-12 shooting. The offense was spread all over the board for the Magic after Tate, with 5 other players scoring in double digits.
Your St. John's Edge will now have 5 days with no games until they head to Moncton to face the Magic. Game time on Saturday is scheduled for 7:30pm NLT. Fans here in Newfoundland and Labrador can watch live, by visiting the link on the Moncton Magic website.
The next home-stand for the Edge is Dec.14th and 16th as they welcome the Island Storm to town. You can purchase your tickets by calling 576-7657, at the Mile One Centre box office, or by visiting www.mileonecentre.com.
