Edenton Breaks CPL Team Single-Season On-Base Percentage Record

HOLLY SPRINGS, N.C. - The Edenton Steamers ran their broken records total to four Wednesday after the 2011 regular season ended, breaking the single-season record for the highest team on-base percentage in Coastal Plain League history.

The Steamers, who finished with a league-best 44-11 overall record in the regular season, sported a .388 on-base percentage as a team, which broke the old record of .377 set back in 2006 by the Martinsville Mustangs.

In addition to that mark, the Steamers broke three other team records this season - RBIs (322), runs scored (370) and walks (280). Furthermore, Edenton finished with a league-high 533 hits on the summer, which is fourth best in league history behind Fayetteville (547 in 2007), Thomasville (543 in 2007) and Edenton (534 in 2008).

The Coastal Plain League is the nation's hottest summer collegiate baseball league. Celebrating its 15th season in 2011, the CPL features 15 teams playing in North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia. The CPL gives college players the chance to refine their skills with the use of wooden bats. Players are housed with local host families for the summer and past experiences have been very positive for both players and hosts. Furthermore, the CPL has had over 930 alumni drafted and 45 alums make their Major League debut thus far.
