2011 CPL Teams Combine to Break Single-Season Home Runs Record, Tie Batting Average Record

August 3, 2011 - Coastal Plain League (Coastal Plain) News Release

HOLLY SPRINGS, N.C. - With the completion of the 2011 Coastal Plain League regular season Tuesday night, the CPL announced that in addition to the previous five league offensive records it had broken, the 2011 teams also combined to break the single-season league mark for home runs with 406 and tied the record for highest league batting average at .256.

The total of 406 homers belted during the regular season by the league's 15 teams in 2011 surpassed the previous record of 402 set back in 2007. Meanwhile, the 2008 and 2011 CPL teams both finished with a .256 average, the highest regular season mark in league history.

In addition to home runs and batting average, the 2011 CPL teams also combined to break the regular season league totals for hits (7,063), doubles (1,262), triples (137), RBIs (3,621) and runs scored (4,170) - proving that 2011 was truly the most offensively dominant summer in CPL history.
