ECHL Deadline Extended to June 28
June 17, 2002 - ECHL (ECHL)
New Orleans Brass News Release
(6/17/02) The New Orleans Brass Hockey Club and the City of New Orleans have been granted an extension of the East Coast Hockey League's deadline to determine whether or not the team will operate in New Orleans during the 2002-2003 season. The league has determined that the Brass and the City of New Orleans must decide by June 28 if they will move to Municipal Auditorium and field a team for the upcoming season. The ECHL's decision came Monday afternoon at the league's Board of Governors meetings in Las Vegas.
In response to the league's decision, the ownership of the New Orleans Brass has determined that the team will play next season if the Brass and the City of New Orleans can work out an agreement by June 28. If, however, the Brass and the City of New Orleans are unable to reach an agreement by June 28, the ECHL deadline forces the owners to suspend operations for the 2002-2003 season or move the franchise to another city.
"We appreciate the league's willingness to allow this extension of time to work out an agreement with the city to facilitate a move to the Auditorium," says Brass Vice President/General Manager Dan Belisle. "The entire organization will continue to work relentlessly in pursuit of our goal to play this year."
