Earthquakes Weekly Update: September 29, 2020
The San Jose Earthquakes earned a 2-1 road victory over the defending Supporters' Shield winners LAFC Sunday night at Banc of California Stadium, after falling to the Colorado Rapids 5-0 last Wednesday at Dick's Sporting Goods Park. Midfielders Shea Salinas and Jackson Yueill scored late for San Jose in Sunday's match to help the Quakes earn all three points.
The Quakes will now prepare to host the rival LA Galaxy in the California Clasico this Saturday, Oct. 3, presented by Valley Health Plan. Kickoff from Earthquakes Stadium is set for 7:30 p.m. PT and the match will be broadcast live on NBC Sports California, KNBR 1050 and 1370 KZSF.
NEXT GAME VS. LA GALAXY (10/3)
San Jose holds a 4-2-2 record against the Galaxy in their last eight meetings, including a recent home draw on Sept. 13.
Defend our Home
The Quakes have only lost two of their six matches at Earthquakes Stadium thus far in 2020.
Sixteen-year-old Cade Cowell became the youngest player in club history to start and the youngest player in club history to score during the match vs. LA Galaxy on Aug. 29.
Almeyda vs. Schelotto
San Jose's head coach Matias Almeyda holds a 2-1-1 record over the LA Galaxy's Guillermo Barros Schelotto in their four meetings at the helm of their respective clubs.
Opportunity to Climb
The Earthquakes (3-6-5, 14 pts.) and LA Galaxy (4-6-3, 15 pts.) are separated in the standings by just one point. San Jose would climb above their rivals with a win on Saturday.
LAST GAME VS. COLORADO RAPIDS (9/23)
Sixteen-year-old Homegrown forward Cade Cowell made his third start of the season playing 45 minutes. He now holds nine appearances this season.
Out of State
With the exception of the MLS is Back Tournament in Orlando earlier this summer, Wednesday's match marked the Quakes' second season match outside of California.

The Quakes earned their first-ever win over LAFC, and now hold a 1-5-0 record against the SoCal club in regular season play.
Defense in Control

Work Paying Off
Homegrown goalkeeper JT Marcinkowski made his second start of the season and seventh of his MLS career, earning his first win. He now has a career MLS record of 1-4-2 as a starter.
For San Jose
Midfielders Jackson Yueill and Shea Salinas scored their first and second goals of the season, respectively. Yueill's goal marked his first career game-winning goal.
RENO 1868 FC UPDATE
Reno 1868 FC earned a 1-1 home draw against Sacramento Republic FC last Saturday, earning a point to keep control of the top spot in Group A with a five-point lead over Sacramento. The draw also extends Reno's unbeaten streak to eight games, tied for the second-longest in club history.
Reno still holds onto the top spot in Group A, with a five-point lead on Sacramento and each of the top three tiebreakers. Reno still has a good opportunity to finish with the most points in the entire USL Championship. Should Reno win out, the team will have home field advantage throughout the postseason.
Reno resumes action quickly with in-state rival Las Vegas Lights FC coming to town this Wednesday, Sept. 30 for the final game of the 2020 Silver State Cup. With a win or draw, Reno will win the cup for the third-straight season. The match kicks off at 6:30 p.m. PT and will be broadcast nationally on ESPN+.
Last Tuesday, Reno defender Younes Boudadi and midfielder Christiano François earned spots on the USL Championship's Team of the Week, days after the 5-2 victory over Portland Timbers 2 on Sept. 20.
François scored twice in the win, his second brace of the season in Portland, and Boudadi earned the honors behind a pair of assists after making his first professional start against Portland.
