With the goal, he was just seven goals shy of the MLS all-time scoring record held by Landon Donovan (145). All but four of Wondolowski's goals have been with the Quakes. The Quakes took the lead 11 minutes into the match through Vako's strike, but were trailing at halftime after Adama Diomande and Steven Beitashour each tallied for the visitors. Wondolowski's brace put the Quakes ahead heading into the final minutes of the game. Diomande scored in the 90th minute to level the score, and João Moutinho scored in the seventh minute of stoppage time to make the final score 4-3. Earthquakes forward Danny Hoesen provided two assists during the game. Kevin Partida, acquired on a season-long loan from San Jose's USL affiliate Reno 1868 FC, started and made his MLS debut.
History of the Quakes - LAFC Rivalry
In the first-ever encounter between the two teams, the Quakes fell to LAFC 4-3 at Avaya Stadium on June 9, 2018. By scoring in the match, Quakes forward Chris Wondolowski became the first player in MLS history to score against all 23 active teams.
MISCELLANEOUS NOTES
Hoesen's Success
With his goal against Sporting Kansas City on Saturday, Danny Hoesen became just the second Earthquakes player other than Chris Wondolowski to reach 15 goals + assists in a single season since 2005 (Alan Gordon - 2012).
Second-Ever Meetings
Wednesday's matchup marks just the second-ever meeting between San Jose and Atlanta, with United FC taking the first match 4-2 at Bobby Dodd Stadium. Saturday's match will also mark the Quakes' second-ever meeting with LAFC. In their first meeting, Los Angeles took a 4-3 win over the Quakes this past June.
Double-Digit Scorers
Should Vako score one more goal this season or Wondolowski score two, it would give the Quakes multiple double-digit goal-scorers in a single season for just the fourth time in club history (1996, 1997, 2012). Only the New York Red Bulls, Houston Dynamo and Real Salt Lake currently have two players with 10 or more goals this season.
Tommy Loves Atlanta
When the Earthquakes took on Atlanta United FC for the first time, Quakes Homegrown midfielder Tommy Thompson scored his first MLS goal against the side on July 4, 2017.
A New Beginning
Wednesday's match against Atlanta United FC will be the first time Quakes interim head coach Steve Ralston will lead the Quakes into battle.
Making History
By scoring in the Earthquakes' first match against LAFC, Quakes forward Chris Wondolowski became the first player in MLS history to score against all 23 active teams.
Homegrown Consistency
Earthquakes defender Nick Lima is the only field player to start all 28 matches for the Quakes in the 2018 MLS season.
