Earthquakes Weekly Update: May 31, 2022

San Jose Earthquakes News Release


SAN JOSE, Calif. - The San Jose Earthquakes fell to Sacramento Republic FC 2-0 in the U.S. Open Cup Round of 16 last Wednesday, before suffering a 3-2 road defeat against Los Angeles Football Club last Saturday.

On Monday, forward Jeremy Ebobisse was selected to Major League Soccer's Team of the Week for Week 14 after scoring two goals against LAFC on Saturday. He now co-leads MLS in goals (9) alongside FC Dallas' Jesus Ferreira.

The Earthquakes will now have a bye week during the international break before returning to MLS action when they face Nashville SC on Saturday, June 11. The match will kick off from GEODIS Park at 3 p.m. PT and will be broadcast nationally on UniMás and TUDN, as well as on local radio via KNBR 1050 (English) and 1370 KZSF (Spanish).

Forward Jeremy Ebobisse scored his eighth and ninth goals of the season and is now two goals away from tying his career-high (11) in 2019. He now co-leads MLS in goals (9) alongside FC Dallas' Jesus Ferreira. Additionally, he now has four multi-goal games this season, the most by a Quakes player in a single season since Chris Wondolowski (6) in 2012.

Creating Chances

Midfielder Jamiro Monteiro tallied an assist on Saturday, marking his fifth assist of the season. He has now scored or assisted on five of the Quakes' last seven matches. Monteiro now has three goals and five assists in his last seven matches.

Assist Leader

Midfielder Cristian Espinoza tallied an assist on Saturday, and now leads the Quakes in assists with seven. He is now three assists away from tying Chris Wondolowski for fourth-most in assists in club history. He also now ranked tied for first MLS in assists with seven.

Line of Defense

Goalkeeper JT Marcinkowski, who wore the captain's armband for the first time of his MLS career, made a season-high six saves for the second time this year.

MISCELLANEOUS NOTES

Emi Ochoa Called to United States U19 National Team

San Jose Earthquakes Homegrown goalkeeper Emi Ochoa has been called to the United States U19 National Team for a pair of international friendlies against England on June 6 and Norway on June 9 in Marbella, Spain. Ochoa has previously represented the United States (U14, U15, U19) and Mexico (U16, U18). The Salinas, Calif. native was most recently called up to the U.S. U19s for a training camp at Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson, Calif. last month.

EARTHQUAKES II UPDATE

Earthquakes II earned two points following a 1-1 draw and penalty shootout victory against St Louis CITY2 on Sunday at Hermann Stadium in St. Louis, Mo. For match highlights, click here.

After a scoreless first half, St Louis CITY2 took the lead in the first minute of the second half through Vitor Dias. Earthquakes II would pull even just two minutes later when Rudy Castro scored a direct free kick. Castro has now scored in each of the last three games for Quakes II. Seventeen-year-old goalkeeper Emi Ochoa, who was recently called to the United States U-19 National Team, made six saves for Quakes II.
