Earthquakes Comment on Moore's Resignation

January 13, 2004 - Major League Soccer (MLS)
San Jose Earthquakes News Release

"We respect the personal decision made by Johnny Moore to resign from his position with the San Jose Earthquakes to pursue other opportunities," said Michael Roth, Vice President, Communications, AEG, Investor-Operators of the MLS team. "We appreciate the role he has played in establishing the Earthquakes as one of MLS' top organizations both on and off the field and wish him well."

In the interim, business affairs will be overseen by Kate McAllister, current director of business affairs for the team with a new General Manager expected to be named in February.

"We are very fortunate to have a seasoned professional like Kate available to handle day-to-day operations of the Earthquakes while we interview candidates for the General Manager position," said Roth. "She will insure that our current plans for the upcoming season will continue to move forward as the Earthquakes defend their MLS title. The season ticket base is at an all-time high for this time of year which not only reflects the tremendous play of the MLS championship team on the field but the commitment of this organization to the community and the fans' support of the team.

While negotiations continue with Club America for their purchase of a portion of the team, there is no timetable for this possible transaction. We have a great deal of respect for Club America President Javier Perez Teuffer and have always believed that finding new partners for the MLS is clearly in the best interest of the league."
