PORTLAND, Ore. - The San Jose Earthquakes played a man down for most of the second half, but kept a clean sheet and earned a 0-0 draw against AIK of Sweden at JELD-WEN Field on Thursday.

San Jose held a majority of the possession during the first half. The Quakes out-shot AIK 7-3 during the first 45 minutes, Sam Garza accounting for the lone shot on goal between the two sides with a stinging volley that Ivan Turina grabbed on his line.

The Earthquakes went down a man in the 60th minute after trialist Jed Zayner took down an AIK player on the break near the edge of the box.

San Jose had several chances despite the one-man difference. Newly signed rookie forward Cesar Diaz Pizarro had the best look after an AIK turnover led to a one-on-one in the area. Pizarro turned and shot, but AIK's defender got a slight touch on the ball to slow down the shot and create an easy save for Turina.

The best chance of the game came in the 87th minute as Daniel Gustavsson found Kwame Amponsah Karikari for a free header at the back post on a free kick. Karikari's shot was blocked into the post by Quakes goalkeeper Evan Newton and then cleared off the line by a defender.

San Jose wraps up the Portland Preseason Tournament with a 2:30 p.m. match against Chivas USA on Sunday. That game will also be livestreamed on www.sjearthquakes.com.
