MONTREAL - The Montreal Impact unveiled on Thursday the 28 players on its roster, in order to be compliant on March 1 with MLS roster guidelines. The club has signed Scottish defender Calum Mallace, Canadian forward Evan James and Mexican defender Gienir Garcia. As per MLS and club policy, terms of the contracts were not disclosed.

Mallace, the first pick of the second round (20th overall) in the 2012 MLS SuperDraft, was named in 2011 the Big East Conference Midfielder of the Year and a member of the All-Big East Conference First Team after registering three goals and six assists in 16 games with Marquette University. He also suited up for the Chicago Fire Premier in 2011, in the Premier Development League, participating in the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup.

James, the first pick overall of the 2012 MLS Supplemental Draft, played in all 25 games for the UNC Charlotte 49ers in 2011, including 23 as a starter. His five goals and seven assists for a total of 17 points helped the 49ers reach the 2011 NCAA National Championship game, narrowly falling to the number-one seed University of North Carolina Tar Heels by a score of 1-0. He was named to the All-Atlantic 10 First Team and the NSCAA All-Mid-Atlantic Region First Team. He has also been involved at the national level, training with Canada's U23 team in January and February 2011.

Mexican defender Gienir Garcia was acquired by the Impact on January 17 from the Vancouver Whitecaps FC in return for the discovery rights to forward Étienne Barbara. The second overall pick of the 2012 Supplemental Draft played 10 games with Cruz Azul Hidalgo in the Mexican second division over the last two years. He began his career in the youth ranks of top Mexican club Cruz Azul, making his first division debut on July 3, 2010, during the 2010-11 season. He has also played two games with Cruz Azul in the preliminary round of the 2010-11 CONCACAF Champions League, scoring one goal.

The Impact also announced that forward Aaron Schoenfeld has not received a contract for the 2012 season, forward Steven Miller will continue to train with the team for further evaluation, while midfielder Gerson Mayen has been waived.

Players waived today by MLS clubs will be a part of tomorrow's Waiver Draft at 3 pm (ET).
