Salem RidgeYaks News Release

Woodbridge, VA-The Salem Avalanche, Class A-Advanced affiliate of the Houston Astros, trailed early, waited out an hour-plus rain delay and never led in a series finale Thursday night against the Potomac Nationals at Pfitzner Stadium. Potomac (35-31) scored all of its runs in the first four innings against Salem (26-40).

In the first inning, Potomac had a pair of runners on via the walk with one out when Dee Brown slammed a two-run triple to center field that scored both Michael Martinez and Andrew Lefave. In the second, Potomac added to the lead with a solo home run to left field from Jhonatan Solano. Then, the rain came and stalled the game for nearly 70 minutes.

Out of the stoppage, the Avalanche drew within one on back-to-back RBI doubles from Jhon Florentino and Tim Torres. Once Potomac stretched the lead to two, the Avalanche Orlando Rosales retaliated with a one-out RBI single in the fourth.

Potomac, though, stymied the Avs for good in the fourth when Dee Brown clocked a three-run double off of Raymar Diaz to make the score 7-3. Immediately after, Matt Rogelstad punched a single to right to score Brown and place the final Potomac run on the board. Salem's offense concluded with a Kevin Carkeek solo home run in the seventh, his first homer as a Salem player.

The Avs being their final series of the season Friday at Lynchburg when Douglas Arguello takes to the hill for the Avalanche in a 6:05 PM start
