Wisconsin Timber Rattlers News Release
GENEVA, IL -- Aaron Recker's solo home run in the bottom of the seventh inning snapped a 7-7 tie and led the Kane County Cougars to an 8-7 win over the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers Thursday night at Elfstrom Stadium. Wisconsin had an early 4-0 lead, but Kane County blitzed their way back to the win on the power of three home runs.
Wisconsin (17-23) jumped out front quickly with a three-run first inning against Cougar starter Trey Shields. Luis Valbuena drove in Jeff Dominguez with a triple. Valbuena scored when Curtis Ledbetter reached on an error. Later in the inning an RBI fielder's choice by JB Tucker knocked in a run for a 3-0 lead.
An RBI double by Ron Garth in the top of the fourth inning put the Rattlers ahead 4-0.
Kane County (22-18) got back into the game with a three run fifth inning. They loaded the bases with three straight singles off Rattler starting pitcher Harold Williams. A wild pitch and an error on the wild pitch allowed the first two runs of the inning to score. A sacrifice fly by Nick Blasi got the Cougars to within a run.
The Rattlers padded their lead to 5-3 on an RBI infield single by Garth in the top of the sixth.
The padding wasn't big enough as the Cougars scored four times in the bottom of the sixth.
Jose Pineda and Steve Kleen, the first two batters Rattler reliever Jeff Gilmore faced, hit back-to-back home runs to tie the game. Frank Martinez put the Cougars up 7-5 with a two-out, two-run single off Rollie Gibson.
But, the Rattlers scraped two runs together in the top of the seventh. Mike Saunders scored on a passed ball. JB Tucker scored on a wild pitch to tie the game at 7-7.
The game did not stay tied long.
Recker, the lead off batter in the bottom of the seventh, drilled a 2-0 pitch from Edgar Guaramato into the right field picnic deck for an 8-7 lead.
Steve Sharpe pitched the final two innings and struck out four Rattlers for his eighth save of the season.
Wisconsin is a season-low six games under .500.
The final game of the four game series is Friday night. Ruben Flores (0-2, 5.31ERA) will be the starting pitcher for the Rattlers. Kane County counters with Jared Lansford (2-1, 1.59ERA). Lansford threw a 7-inning no-hitter in his last start. Game time is 6:30pm.
