Lansing Lugnuts News Release

Burlington, IA - Extra innings are nothing new for the Lansing Lugnuts. For the sixth time this season, the Lugnuts played extra frames, and for the fourth time they dropped an extra inning game on the road, falling to the Burlington Bees 2-1 in 12 innings Thursday night. The Lugnuts have now lost three straight games and have dropped their last seven on the road.

With the game tied 1-1 in the 12th, the Bees loaded the bases for Valentino Arce. Arce ripped a single past a diving Jesus Gonzalez into left field for the game winning hit, as Jeremy Jerschele scored on the play.

The Lugnuts tied the game in the sixth inning when Cory Patton laced an RBI single into right-center field to plate Sean Shoffit. It would be the last hit that the Lugnuts would get, as the Bees' pitching staff retired the final 17 batters that it faced. Lansing has been held to four total runs through the first three games of the series.

Burlington's only other run of the game came in the third inning when Josh Johnson came home after Carlos Arroyo reached base on a fielder's choice.

Russ Savickas started the game on the mound for Lansing, throwing six innings of one run baseball.

Gilbert De La Vera (2-1) notched the win for the Bees by shutting down the Lugnuts for the final four innings of the game.

Joey McLaughlin (2-1) took the loss for the Lugnuts after allowing the game winning hit to Arce.

Lansing (23-16) will try to avoid the sweep at the hands of Burlington (17-21) on Friday night. First pitch is set for 8:00 p.m. EST.
