Biloxi Shuckers News Release
MONTGOMERY, AL - After scoring four runs early, the Biloxi Shuckers (36-39, 2-5 2nd Half) were held off the scoreboard for the remainder of the game in an 8-4 defeat against the Montgomery Biscuits (33-36, 5-2 2nd Half) on Wednesday night at Riverwalk Stadium.
The Shuckers' offense got off to a hot start in the first inning. In his first at bat since June 21, Sal Frelick singled to lead off the frame and moved to second when Andruw Monasterio was hit by a pitch. Jakson Reetz then doubled to the left-field gap, driving in both runners to make it 2-0 Biloxi. A walk to Thomas Dillard put two men on base yet again and Noah Campbell plated Reetz with a single, moving the Shuckers ahead 3-0. A Gabe Holt single brought home the final run of the frame, putting Biloxi up 4-0.
On the mound, RHP T.J. Shook (L, 0-2) tossed a scoreless first inning and allowed just a run in the second. The righty ran into trouble in the third when he hit a batter and walked two, loading up the bases with one out for Niko Hulsizer. The Biscuits' outfielder connected for a grand slam, vaulting Montgomery to a 5-4 lead.
RHP Caleb Sampen (H,2) entered in the fourth for Montgomery. With two outs, Yeison Coca walked and moved to third on the second hit of the night from Frelick, but Biloxi left the tying man at third on a pop out. In the top of the fifth, the Shuckers yet again put a man in scoring position when Monasterio singled, stole second and advanced to third, putting the tying run at third with no outs. Sampen was able to induce two groundouts and a flyout that held the runner at third, ending the Shuckers best scoring chance for the remainder of the game.
Montgomery added on a pair of runs in the fifth and one in the sixth. RHP Cam Robinson made his first appearance with Biloxi in the eighth inning, tossing a scoreless frame with a hit batter and two strikeouts.
Biloxi continues their six-game series against the Biscuits on Thursday night at Riverwalk Stadium. LHP Nick Bennett (3-7, 5.84) toes the slab for the Shuckers against Biscuits' RHP Taj Bradley (3-1, 1.65) for a 6:35 pm first pitch.
