Early Eruption Leads Spinners to 7-3 Victory

LOWELL, MA - After falling by a final score of 3-1 the night before, the Lowell Spinners, proud affiliate of the 2018 World Champion Boston Red Sox, bounced back to say the least erupting for seven early runs and defeated the Connecticut Tigers, affiliate of the Detroit Tigers, by a final of 7-3.
Aldo Ramirez got the start for the Spinners (34-29) and spun a gem - tossing 5.0 innings, allowing allowing just two runs (one earned). Both runs scored after he was taken out of the game, however. He also struck out four and walked two.
With the win, the Spinners also increased their lead in the division to 3.5 games and lowered their magic number to clinch the division to 11 games with 13 left to play.
The Tigers (30-32) also were only able to muster two hits off Ramirez, who picked up his second win of the season Sunday night.
Lowell got on the board first in the bottom of the second inning. The Spinners erupted for four runs in the frame. Luke Bandy got it all started with an RBI single that scored Nicholas Northcut and Antoni Flores kept it going with an RBI single that drove home Stephen Scott from third base.
Cameron Cannon put the nail on Connecticut's coffin early with a two-run double that scored Gilberto Jimenez and Bandy, making it 4-0 early on.
In the bottom of the fourth inning, Lowell decided four runs wasn't enough and tallied three more runs - giving the Spinners a 7-0 advantage. Jimenez tacked on the first one an RBI double that scored Jonathan Diaz - making it 5-0. Antoni Flores continued his RBI attack with a sacrifice fly and Cannon made it three RBIs on the day when he singled home Jimenez.
In the top of the sixth, Nick Quintana gave Connecticut its only runs of the day on a three-run home that ricocheted off the scoreboard in left field.
Miguel Suero and Kris Jackson went the rest of the way for Lowell, combining for four innings of work. They allowed one run on one hit. The duo walked three and struck out three.
The Spinners and Tigers are back in action on Monday night for the rubber match of the three-game set - first pitch is at 7:05 p.m.
