Eagles Top Remparts Friday Night in Quebec City
January 5, 2024 - Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League (QMJHL)
Cape Breton Eagles News Release
The Remparts started quickly, with Daniel Agostino hammering the game's opening goal by Jakub Milota from the right faceoff circle just 43 seconds into the action. The shot clock read 4-0 before the Eagles registered a shot, but after a successful penalty kill the Eagles were able to turn the momentum around.
On the second Eagles power play of the period, the Eagles found a breakthrough as Olivier Houde zapped a one timer by Vincent Fillion. The scored remained locked at one after the opening period.
The Eagles took control of the game with a pair of goals in the opening four minutes of the second stanza. Houde's second of the night came at the 79 second mark- all alone in front of the net, he patiently deked and flipped the puck after Fillion dropped towards the ice. The lead expanded when Cam Squires finished a three way passing play on the man advantage. There was no further scoring in the second stanza and the Eagles carried a 3-1 lead to the dressing room.
The clubs would exchange power play goals in the first half of the third period. Alexandre Desmarais, playing in his second QMJHL game, scored his first career goal with a rising shot to beat Milota. It was Antoine Roy that would counter, tipping a point shot by Tomas Lavoie by Fillion. Roy also scored at even strength, converting a pass from behind the net from Émile Ricard to finish the scoring.
The Eagles finish up their three game Quebec swing tomorrow in Victoriaville. Game time is 5 PM AST. The game is available for purchase on https://shorturl.at/gjmOQ and you can also hear all the action on 1270 AM CJCB or online at www.cjcbradio.com.
