Spirit Week in Review:

The Saginaw Spirit lost three games over the weekend, 4-3 to Kingston, 4-1 in Owen Sound and 6-1 in Mississauga. Spirit defenseman Patrick McNeill is now tied for fifth among defensemen in scoring with eight points. Over-agers Tom Harrison and Chris Bain are 1-2 in the OHL in Penalty Minutes, with 51 and 44 respectively.

Joining the Team:

Spirit import pick, forward Marek Kvapil joined the team Friday for the game against the Frontenacs, and contributed immediately. He had a goal and an assist in his Spirit debut, and contributed on Spirit special teams. Kvapil is a 19 year old native of Prague, The Czech Republic.

Breaking The Ice:

Spirit forward Gary Klapkowski's goal in Owen Sound marked his first of the season and broke an unusual streak for the Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania native. Klapkowski had two goals earlier in the season disallowed.

Spirit v. Belleville Bulls Friday, 10/22 @ The Dow Event Center

The Bulls come to Saginaw for the only time this season leading the Eastern Conference, East Division. They have the first overall OHL pick from 2004 in John Hughes. The Spirit split the season series with the Bulls last year, 1-1. Goalie Eric Tobia is fifth in the league in Goals Against Average at 2.35, and tied for fourth in Save Percentage at .928. Former Oshawa Generals' head coach George Burnett leads the squad.

Spirit @ Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds Sunday, 10/24 @ The Soo

This is the first match-up between the Spirit and division rival Soo this season. Saginaw was 1-7 against the Hounds in 2003-04. They come into the weekend at 2-6-1, fifth in the West Division. The Soo return with Philadelphia Flyers draft pick Jeff Carter. Defensemen David Jarram and Brad Staubitz offer a gritty combination for the Soo's blue line.
