On a beautiful night for baseball at East Field, the Glens Falls Golden Eagles held off the Oneonta Outlaws 10-6 in a wild affair. The win gives Glens Falls their third consecutive and improves them to 4-3 on the season. Meanwhile, the Outlaws drop their third straight contest, falling to 3-3.
Neither starter fared in the decision as Taylor Saucedo (Tacoma C.C.) earned his first win of the season for Glens Falls, going to 1-0. Sam Johnson (Galveston) was dealt the loss, dropping to 0-1.
Taking charge early, Zach Lucas (Louisville) put the Outlaws ahead 2-0 with a two-run home run off Glens Falls starter Nick Pivetta (New Mexico JC) in the top of the first.
Two innings later, a pair of fielding errors by Ross Kivett (Kansas St.) and Danny Brennan (St. Louis) led to three more runs for Oneonta as they opened up a 5-0 lead at the time.
In the bottom half of the third, a leadoff single by Emmanuel Forcier (New Mexico JC) who stole second and would later score on a throwing error by Oneonta catcher Forrest Johnson (Notre Dame) providing the first run of the evening for the Golden Eagles.
Glens Falls would add two more runs in the same frame as a bloop double by Kivett plated Brennan and a sacrifice fly by Mike Vigliarolo (St. Louis) brought home the Golden Eagles second baseman.
What would turn out to be the final run of the night for the Outlaws was scored by Zac Johnson (Illinois St.) on a wild pitch signaling the end of the night for Pivetta.
Making their second comeback of the game, Kivett reached on an error by Outlaws first baseman Heath Holder (Georgia) and eventually came around to score on a wild pitch by Oneonta starter Taylor Hicks (Georgia). Cutting it to a one-run deficit, an RBI single by Chris King (Louisburg) scored Chase Griffin (Georgia Southern).
Saucedo, Jordan Keysor (Skidmore), Wes Judish (San Diego) and Jared Cheek (Georgia Southern) held the Outlaws offense at bay over the final four innings.
In the bottom half of the sixth, Buddy Putnam (South Florida) was hit by a pitch, went to second on a walk issued by Johnson, advanced to third on a groundout and tied the game on a sacrifice fly to center field by Brennan.
Taking the lead for good also in the sixth, Alberto Morales (Clarendon) scored on a wild pitch before the big boppers in the Glens Falls lineup, Vigliarolo and King provided the insurance runs.
An RBI single by Vigliarolo and a two-run double off the center field wall by King accounted for the final score.
Glens Falls will be back in action tomorrow night at 7 P.M. when the Watertown Wizards come to East Field. Oneonta will return home to host Cooperstown, first pitch is also scheduled for 7 P.M.
