Cape Breton Eagles News Release

On the final day of the 2024 Quebec Maratimes Junior Hockey League draft period, the Cape Breton Eagles have acquired 19-year-old defenceman Tomas Cibulka from the Val-d'Or Foreurs in exchange for a second round draft pick in 2024 and a second round draft pick in 2025.

Cibulka lead the Foreurs in points this season despite being a defenceman, scoring eight goals and 20 assists in 27 games.

Recently, Cibulka captured a bronze medal at the 2024 World Junior Ice Hockey Championships where he scored two goals in seven games with his home country of Czechia.

In December, Eagles General Manager Sylvain Couturier said he would be focused on offence heading into the trade period. "We are going to try and work on our offensive game," he said. "So for us, we aren't closing the door on a good QB guy who can run the powerplay. An offensive guy that can generate offence and that will help our forwards."

Cibulka is set to make his Cape Breton Eagles debut on Thursday at Centre 200 in Sydney when the Eagles welcome the Quebec Remparts at 7PM.
