UNCASVILLE, Conn. (February 9, 2010) - E.O. Smith has been selected as the Connecticut Sun High School Girls' Basketball Team of the Week, presented by Camaro Signs of Yantic, for the week of February 1-7.
The Panthers remained undefeated last week, improving to 17-0 with victories over Rockville on Tuesday, Windham on Thursday and Rocky Hill on Friday. In a 53-38 win over Windham - which had won nine straight including a victory over previously-unbeaten Bacon Academy - Kelley Sundberg scored a game-high 23 points for E.O. Smith. The Panthers are No. 7 in the latest New Haven Register Girls' Basketball Poll.
This is the fourth season the Connecticut Sun has recognized a Team of the Week. Each winner will receive a commemorative plaque and a congratulatory letter from Connecticut Sun coach Mike Thibault.
The Team of the Week is part of a series of initiatives undertaken by the Connecticut Sun to highlight local high school girls' basketball, where future WNBA stars are already competing. The Sun have also hosted the CIAC Championship luncheon and the four state title games, and the team will recognize the four champions during a ceremony at halftime of a regular season game during the 2010 season.
