Amarillo Venom News Release
The Amarillo Dusters announced today the assignment from the af2 league office of veteran Fullback Wallace House.
"Wallace is a bruising runner and a punishing blocker, which is what we need," said Dusters Head Coach Chris MacKeown. "He has arena experience, and he's the prototypical size of an AFL Fullback at 290 pounds. He's a very intelligent person, and most importantly he's excited to be a Duster."
The 6'1, 290 lb House joins the Dusters after having a standout season with the Florida Firecats of af2 in 2007. House was named the Firecats Rookie of The Year for 2007. He appeared in 11 games last season, and led the Firecats in rushing yardage and rushing touchdowns. He carried the ball 63 times for 239 yards and 12 touchdowns. His 91-yard performance against the Tennessee Valley Vipers on June 9th was one of the best rushing performances in the history of af2. He finished 6th overall in in af2 in rushing touchdowns and was 7th overall in rushing yardage.
"I'm excited about coming to Amarillo," said House. "My goals for next season are very simple. I want us to be the best team we can be, and win the Arena Cup. Secondly, I want to be the best Fullback in the league, in every respect."
House was a 4-year starter at Fullback at 1-AA Fordham University in New York from 2000-2003. In addition to being a captain and leader on the field, he was named to the Patriot League Academic All-Conference team as well, while majoring in Business Administration. During his tenure at Fordham, the Rams shattered school records in rushing with House leading the way as the lead blocker. He also did damage with the ball in his hands, rushing for 203 yards and 1 touchdown, while adding 107 receiving yards and 4 receiving touchdowns through the air.
The Amarillo Dusters will begin their 4th season in af2 when training camp begins next March. The team's first open tryout will be held on Saturday, November 17th at the Amarillo Civic Center. For more information, call (806) 350-7277 or visit us at www.dustersfootball.com for further details.
