Dust Devils Win on Wild Walk-Off
August 11, 2016 - Northwest League (NWL1)
Tri-City Dust Devils News Release
A double from Boomer White combined with two errors allowed him to score the walk-off winning run as the Tri-City Dust Devils (5-8, 24-27) topped the Spokane Indians (7-6, 26-25) on Wednesday night 2-1 at Gesa Stadium. Cal Quantrill, the eighth overall pick of this year's MLB Draft, was impressive in his second start for the Dust Devils.
Quantrill threw 4.2 innings, the longest outing of his professional career. After allowing a bloop single to the first batter of the game, he proceeded to retire the next 13 Spokane batters in order. He allowed two hits, no walks, and had eight strikeouts.
The Dust Devils were held hitless through the first five innings of the game. Buddy Reed doubled to get the team's first hit in the sixth inning. Two batters later G.K. Young drove him home with a single. The Indians answered back in the eighth inning, tying the game at 1-1.
It would remain tied until the bottom of the ninth inning. With two outs White hit an opposite field double. A pair of throwing errors after he reached second base allowed White to score the walk-off winning run. The walk-off victory was the team's third of the year.
The three-game series will conclude Thursday night at Gesa Stadium. Left-hander Eric Lauer will start the rubber match for Tri-City. Fellow southpaw Sal Mendez will counter for Spokane. It will be Dollars in Your Dog Night presented by Cascade Natural Gas. Great seats are available by calling the Dust Devils' front office at (509) 544-8789 or by going to www.dustdevilsbaseball.com to purchase tickets.
