Tri-City Dust Devils News Release
Another good pitching performance paced the Tri-City Dust Devils to their second win of the second half of the season Thursday night as they beat the Everett AquaSox by a score of 5-2. A solo homerun by shortstop Hector Gomez and a two-RBI night from third baseman Jeremiah Sammy gave the Dust Devils' pitching staff the support they needed. Tri-City hammered out ten hits on the night.
Dust Devils (2-0) starter Josh Mueller (2-0) posted another solid performance Thursday, going six innings and allowing just one run, which was unearned. He also struck out three and allowed four hits. Mueller, a 13th round draft-pick by the Colorado Rockies in this year's MLB draft, lowered his earned run average to a stellar 1.90.
The Dust Devils bullpen did very well, yet again, and made sure the slim lead lasted for the victory. Relievers Brad McAtee, Billy Vopinek and Craig Bennigson combined for three shutout innings of relief.
Getting tagged with the loss for the AquaSox (0-2) was starter Chris Sorce (3-2). Sorce lasted 5 1/3 innings and allowed two runs, both earned. He also scattered eight Dust Devil hits throughout those innings, getting out of multiple tough jams unscathed. It wasn't until Gomez homered to deep left field in the fifth inning that Sorce was harmed.
The 7-8-9 hitters for the Dust Devils stepped it up big time, combining to go five for twelve in the game. The trio of catcher Dustin Garneau, first baseman Mark Tracy and centerfielder Nathan Hines did not give the Everett pitching staff a break all night and constantly put runners on base for the top of the lineup.
Game three of five between the intra-state rivals is Friday night. It, like all Fridays, is $1 Family Feast Night with all hot dogs, ice cream sandwiches, French fries and Coke products on sale for just one dollar. Family Feast Night is presented by Lamb Weston.
