Dust Devils Celebrate Good Times

August 29, 2009 - Northwest League (NWL1)
Tri-City Dust Devils News Release

The last time the Tri-City Dust Devils qualified for the Northwest League Championship Series, they defeated the Boise Hawks in Boise on the final day of the 2007 regular season. This time, however, there was no drama, as the Dust Devils (42-26) posted a workmanlike 3-1 win over the Hawks (30-38) at Gesa Stadium to clinch the Eastern Division title with eight games remaining. The Dust Devils also added to their franchise record winning streak, currently at eight games, and their franchise single-season win record.

Boise scored their lone run in the top of the first off of Tri-City starter Josh Hungerman. The Dust Devils got on the board in the fourth, as Kent Matthes hit a two-out double and scored on an Orlando Sandoval single to left. Tri-City scored the go-ahead runs in the seventh, as a Jeremiah Sammy chopper got through the drawn-in infield and plated Jose Gonzalez and Joey Wong.

Bo Bowman had the lone multi-hit game for the Dust Devils with two singles. Reliever Paul Bargas (2-1) earned the win with 1 1/3 perfect innings. Boise reliever Eduardo Figueroa (3-4) took the loss.

The Dust Devils will continue their series with the Hawks on Sunday. The Championship Series will begin Monday, September 7th at Gesa Stadium against the Salem-Keizer Volcanoes.
